1901 - American League Becomes Major
The Chicago White Stockings beat the Cleveland Blues, 8-2, as the American League started its first season as a major league. Three other scheduled opening games were rained out.

1909 - Record Still Stands, on Three Legs
Harry Hillman and Lawson Robertson set a world record, never broken, of 11 seconds in the 100-yard three-legged race. (In a three-legged race, the left leg of one runner is tied to the right leg of the other runner.)

1994 - Robinson Wins Scoring Title with 71-Point Game
San Antonio center David Robinson scored 71 points in a 112-97 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers to win the NBA scoring title. He became the fourth to score more than 70 points; the others were Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, and David Thompson.
