Historic Events

1926 - Dodgers Have Third Base Loaded

The Dodgers had the bases loaded against the Braves at Ebbets Field when Babe Herman hit a drive against the right field wall. Dazzy Vance, the runner at second, held up, thinking the ball would be caught, then headed for third. The ball arrived as he was on his way toward home, so he went back to third base. In the meantime, Chick Fewster had already arrived there and Herman, head down, was determined to get a triple. As a result, the Dodgers ended up with three men on third and Herman had doubled into a double play.

1990 - Mulholland Faces Minimum 27 Hitters

Terry Mulholland of the Phillies got a no-hitter and barely missed a perfect game in a 6-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants. Only one hitter reached base, on a throwing error, and was subsequently wiped out in a double play, so Mulholland faced the minimum of 27 hitters.
