1931 - Grove's Winning Streak Ends Badly
Backup outfielder Johnny Moore of the Philadelphia Athletics misjudged a fly ball, allowing the only run to score, and the St. Louis Browns won, 1-0, ending Lefty Grove's 16-game winning streak. Grove was furious that starting outfielder Al Simmons was out of the lineup.

1933 - Feller Strikes Out 15 in Debut
Seventeen-year-old Bob Feller made his first appearance for the Cleveland Indians, striking out 15 St. Louis Browns. After the season ended, Feller returned to Van Meter, Iowa, for his senior year in high school.

1952 - One At-Bat, Two Ejections
New York Giants' third baseman Bob Elliott was thrown out of a game against the St. Louis Cardinals for arguing with home plate umpire Augie Donatelli on a called strike. Bobby Hoffman replaced him at the plate and argued when he was called out on strikes. Donatelli tossed him, too.

1966 - AFL Wins First Game vs. NFL
The Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears met in the first-ever game between teams from the American Football League and the National Football League. The Chiefs won the exhibition game, 66-24.

1969 - McElmury Wins World Road Title
Cyclist Audrey McElmury won the world amateur road race championship at Brno, Czechoslovakia. She was the first American woman ever to win a world championship and the first American of either sex to do it since 1912.

1970 - Deja Vu! Clemente Gets 5 Hits
Hall of Fame outfielder Roberto Clemente of the Pittsburgh Pirates got 5 hits in a game for the second day in a row, the only major leaguer ever to do it.
