1924 - Larry Doby, Hall of Fame centerfielder who was the American League's first black player; in Camden, SC

1942 - Redskins End Bears' Streak

Entering the NFL championship game against the Washington Redskins, the Chicago Bears were riding an 18-game winning streak and hoping to become the first NFL team to win all of its games. They took a 6-0 lead on a 50-yard return of a fumble recovery, but the Redskins came back with two touchdowns and a 14-6 win.

1956 - Jackie Robinson Traded, Retires

The Brooklyn Dodgers traded Jackie Robinson to the New York Giants for lefty pitcher Dick Littlefield and cash. But Robinson decided to retire at 37 rather than play for the Dodgers' arch-rivals.

1983 - Pistons Win Highest-Scoring Game

The Detroit Pistons edged the Denver Nuggets, 186-184, in triple overtime. The teams combined to set NBA records for most points (370), most field goals made (136), and most assists (93).
