1932 - Bears Win First NFL Title Game
The NFL faced an unprecedented tie for first between the Chicago Bears and Portsmouth Spartans, so a championship game was added to the schedule. Cold weather and heavy snow forced a move from Wrigley Field to Chicago Stadium, where the field was only 60 yards long from goal line to goal line and field goals were prohibited. Facing a fourth down at the Portsmouth 2-yard line late in the game, Bronko Nagurski headed for the line, stopped, and threw a pass to Red Grange in the end zone. Portsmouth complained that Nagurski hadn't been 5 yards behind the line, as required at the time, but officials gave the Bears the touchdown. They added a safety for a 9-0 win.
