Bill Shoemaker rode his his 40,350th and last race, finishing fourth on Patchy Groundfog at Santa Anita. He retired with a record 8,333 wins, 6,136 seconds, 4,987 thirds, and $123,375,534 in winnings.

1998 - Ciccarelli Scores 600th Goal

Dino Ciccarelli of the Florida Panthers scored his 600th NHL career goal on a power play in the third period to gain Florida a 1-1 tie with the Detroit Red Wings. He became the ninth player to reach 600.
