1952 - Marciano Wins 39th Straight Fight
Rocky Marciano knocked out Lee Savold in the sixth round at Philadelphia to collect his 39th victory in 39 professional fights. Seven months later, Marciano won the world heavyweight title.

1954 - Selvy Scores NCAA Record 100
Frank Selvey of Furman scored an even 100 points, on 41 field goals and 18 free throws, in a 149-95 victory over Newberry. That's still the NCAA Division I record.

1977 - Heiden Sweeps World Championships
Eric Heiden, who was virtually unknown in his own country until 1980, became the first skater ever to sweep the world junior overall, senior overall and sprint speed skating championships. His victories inspired a popular song, "The Ballad of Eric Heiden," in Norway.

1990 - Islanders' Trottier Scores 500th Goal
Bryan Trottier of the New York Islanders scored his 500th NHL goal in a 4-2 loss to the Calgary Flames.
