1971 - Esposito Becomes Fastest to Hit 50

On his 29th birthday, Phil Esposito of the Boston Bruins scored his 50th goal of the season, the fastest that mark had ever been achieved. He finished with an NHL record of 76 goals.

1974 - Gordie Howe Unretires at 46

At the age of 46, Gordie Howe came out of retirement to sign a four-year, $1 million contract with the Houston Aeros of the World Hockey Association. He finally retired when he was 52.

1982 - Islanders Win Record 15th Straight

The New York Islanders beat the Colorado Rockies, 3-2, to set an NHL record with 15 consecutive regular-season victories.

1988 - Boitano Edges Orser in "Battle of Brians"

In the "Battle of the Brians" at the Calgary Winter Olympics, Brian Boitano of the United States edged Canada's Brian Orser to win the men's figure skating gold medal.
