1970 - AFL and NFL Become One
The American and National Football Leagues officially merged, creating a new 26-team NFL. The Baltimore Colts, Cleveland Browns, and Pittsburgh Steelers joined the 10 former AFL teams in the league's American Football Conference, while the other 13 NFL teams were grouped in the National Football Conference.

1998 - First 15-foot Woman Pole Vault
Emma George of Australia cleared an even 15 feet at the Robin Tait Classic in Auckland, New Zealand, breaking the world pole vault record of 14-11 and becoming the first woman to exceed the 15-foot mark.
