1942 - Louis Defends Title for 24th Time

In his 24th defense of the world heavyweight championship, Joe Louis knocked out Buddy Baer in the first round at Madison Square Garden. The purse was donated to the Naval Relief Fund.

1954 - Olmstead Notches 8 Points for Canadiens

Bert Olmstead of the Montreal Canadiens tied the NHL record by scoring 8 points, on 4 goals and 4 assists, in a 12-1 win over the Chicago Black Hawks. (The record was broken in 1976 by Darryl Sittler.)

1954 - The "Big O" Outscores Seton Hall

Sophomore Oscar Robertson outscored the opposition with 56 points as his Cincinnati team overwhelmed Seton Hall, 118-54.
