1970 - Chiefs Even It for the AFL
Following the AFL's last independent season, the Kansas City Chiefs evened the Super Bowl series at two victories for each league by beating the Minnesota Vikings, 23-7. KC quarterback Len Dawson was chosen as the game's MVP.

1971 - NBA Names Silver Anniversary Team
The NBA named ten players to its Silver Anniversary team: Paul Arizin, Bob Cousy, Bob Davies, Joe Fulks, Sam Jones, George Mikan, Bob Pettitt, Bill Russell, Dolph Schayes, and Bill Sharman. Red Auerbach was named the coach.

1973 - American League Adopts DH
Baseball's American League adopted a rules change allowing the designated hitter, a player who bats for the pitcher throughout the game but never has to play in the field.

1987 - Elway Leads "the Drive"
Trailing the Cleveland Browns, 20-13, the Denver Broncos had the ball at their own 2-yard line late in the fourth quarter of the AFC championship. John Elway engineered a 15-play, 98-yard drive for the tying touchdown with 37 seconds to play and the Broncos won in overtime, 23-20.
