1857 - Baseball Becomes a 9-Inning Game

In its first official meeting, the National Association Association of Base Ball Players established a rule that a game would end after nine innings. Previously, games had gone on until one team scored 21 runs.

George Foreman celebrated his 24th birthday by winning the world heavyweight title with a second-round KO of Joe Frazier.

1983 - Blazers Blank Rockets in OT

The Portland Trail Blazers outscored the Houston Rockets, 17-0, in overtime to win, 113-96. Houston was the first NBA team ever to be held scoreless in OT.

1984 - Allen Leads Raiders in Super Bowl

The Oakland Raiders defeated the Washington Redskins, 38-9, in Super Bowl XVIII. Halfback Marcus Allen, who carried the ball 20 times for 191 yards and two TDs, including one on a 74-yard run, was named MVP.

1989 - Niners March 92 Yards to Win

Trailing by 3 points with less than four minutes to play, the San Francisco 49ers marched 92 yards for the winning touchdown to beat the Cincinnati Bengals, 20-6, in Super Bowl XXIII. Joe Montana's touchdown pass to John Taylor won the game with 34 seconds to go.
