1921 - First Million-Dollar Gate: Dempsey-Carpentier

Jack Dempsey knocked out Georges Carpentier of France in the fourth round of their heavyweight championship fight in Jersey City, NJ. Promoted by Tex Rickard, it was the first fight with a $1 million gate.

1933 - Hubbell Throws 18-Inning Shutout

Left-handed screwball pitcher Carl Hubbell pitched an 18-inning shutout as the New York Giants beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 1-0, in the first game of a doubleheader. The Giants won the second game by the same score, but it took only nine innings.

1985 - Joe Niekro Wins 200th Game

Knuckleballer Joe Niekro pitched the Houston Astros to a 3-2 win over the San Diego Padres for his 200th career victory.
