1951 - Citation Passes $1 Million Mark
Citation won his last race, the Hollywood Gold Cup, to go over $1 million in career earnings, and was then retired. In 45 starts, Citation finished out of the money only once and won a total of $1,085,760.

1967 - Mathews Hits 500th Career Homer. . .
Third baseman Eddie Mathews of the Houston Astros hit his 500th career home run of Juan Marichal of the San Francisco Giants in an 8-6 Houston victory. Mathews finished his career with 512 home runs, one more than Mel Ott's former National League record.

1968- . . . And Aaron Follows Suit
One year after his former teammate, Mathews, had done it, Henry Aaron of the Atlanta Braves collected his 500th home run. It came off San Francisco lefty Mike McCormick. Aaron and Mathews had been teammates with the Milwaukee Braves, where they combined for 1,267 home runs, 60 more than Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig together.
