1941 - Dimaggio's Hitting Streak Stopped

Mainly because of two fine backhand plays by Cleveland third baseman Ken Keltner, Joe Dimaggio's 56-game hitting streak came to an end. Dimaggio went 0-for-4 against Indian pitchers Al Smith and Jim Bagby.

1974 - Gibson Collects 3,000th Career Strikeout

St. Louis Cardinal pitcher Bob Gibson whiffed Cesar Geronimo of the Cincinnati Reds to become the second pitcher in history with 3,000 career strikeouts. (Walter Johnson was the first.)

1990 - Twins Turn Two Triple Plays

In a 1-0 loss to the Boston Red Sox, the Minnesota Twins made major league history by turning in two triple plays.

1994 - Price Wins British Open with Eagle

Thanks to a 50-foot eagle putt on the 17th hole of the final round, Nick Price of Zimbabwe won the British Open by one shot over Jesper Parnevik at Turnberry, Scotland.
