1983 - Brett Hits Pine Tar Home Run
George Brett's two-run homer apparently gave the Kansas City Royals a 5-4 lead over the New York Yankees in the top of the ninth inning. After a protest from Yankee manager Billy Martin, Brett was declared out because the pine tar on his bat extended more than 18 inches up the handle. The Royals then protested that decision and American League president Lee McPhail ordered that the home run should be allowed and the game replayed from that point. On Aug, 19, the game was finished and the Royals' 5-4 victory held up.
