Babe Ruth announced his retirement from baseball in his 22nd major league season. Finishing his career with the Boston Braves, Ruth had benched himself three days before.

1984 - Sheehan Fires 8 Birdies and an Eagle

In the third round of the LPGA Championship, Patty Sheehan birdied 8 of the first 13 holes and finished with an eagle on the 18th. She went on to win the tourney for the second straight year.

The Andretti family swept the Milwaukee 200 Indy Car race as Michael won the race, John finished second, and Mario was third.
