1930 - "Triple Crown" Enters Sports Lexicon

Gallant Fox, with Earl Sande up, won the Belmont Stakes in the time of 2:31.3, after having won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness earlier in the year. Sportswriter Charles Hatton used the phrase "Triple Crown" to describe the feat, which had been previously accomplished only by Sir Barton in 1919.

1936 - Innings 16, Strikeouts 0

The New York Yankees scored in the 16th inning to beat the Cleveland Indians, 5-4, concluding the longest game in majr league history without a strikeout.

1941 - Whirlaway Is 5th Triple Crown Champ

Ridden by Eddie Arcaro, Whirlaway beat Robert Morris by 2 1/2 lengths to win the Belmont Stakes, becoming the fifth horse to capture the triple crown.

1989 - Blue Jays start Outdoors, Win Indoors

The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 4-2, in the first major league game to start outdoors and end indoors. The roof of the Skydome was closed because of darkness and rain at 8:48 p.m. after having been open for most of the game.
