1919 - Sir Barton Is First Triple-Crown Winner
Johnny Loftus rode Sir Barton to victory in the Belmont Stakes in an American record time of 2:17.2 for 1 3/8 miles. The horse was the first to win the three major races for three-year-olds, which became known as the Triple Crown in 1930.

1990 - RLyan Notches 6th No-Hitter
Nolan Ryan threw his sixth no-hitter, beating the Oakland Athletics, 5-0. An odd note is that the last three hitters he retired were all former New York Yankees: Ken Phelps, Rickey Henderson, and Willie Randolph.
