1870 - 130-Game Winning Streak Ends

The Brooklyn Atlantics ended the Cincinnati Red Stockings' 130-game winning streak with an 11-inning, 8-7 victory. The first all-professional baseball team, the Red Stockings had won all of their games while touring the East in 1869 and had begun 1870 with 22 straight victories before the loss at Brooklyn.

1876 - Hall Hits for Cycle

Philadelphia centerfielder George Hall became the first major league player to hit for the cycle, getting a single, double, triple, and home run in one game.

1934 - Baer KOs Carnera for Heavyweight Title

Max Baer won the world heavyweight championship by knocking out Primo Carnera in the 11th round of their fight at Long Island City.

1974 - Ryan Whiffs Record 19

Nolan Ryan of the California Angels struck out 19 Red Sox in 12 innings, a major league record at the time.

1979 - McCovey Hits Record 513th Home Run

First baseman Willie McCovey of the San Francisco Giants set the National League record for left-handed hitters with his 513th career home run.
