1903 - Two Complete Games, Two Losses

Wiley Piatt of the Boston Beaneaters became the only pitcher of the 20th century to lose two complete games in one day, 1-0 and 5-3 to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

1921 - Hutchison Breaks British Monopoly

Jock Hutchison beat Roger Wethered by nine strokes in a 36-hole playoff at St. Andrews to become the first American golfer to win the British Open.

Third baseman Fred Lindstrom of the New York Giants tied the major league record by collecting 9 hits in a doubleheader.

1937 - Galan Switch-Hits Homers

The Chicago Cubs' Augie Galan became the first major league player to hit home runs from both sides of the plate in one game.

1948 - Louis Wins Final Defense

Joe Louis defended his heavyweight title for the last time, knocking out Jersey Joe Walcott in the 11th round of their fight in Yankee Stadium. Shortly afterward, Louis announced his retirement from the ring.

1969 - 44-Year-Old Gonzalez Wins Wimbledon's Longest Match

Pancho Gonzalez beat Charles Pasarell in the longest tennis match in Wimbledon history. The 41-year-old Gonzalez won, 22-24, 1-6, 16-14, 6-3, 11-9 in the 112-game match, which lasted 5 hours and 12 minutes.
