1916 - Indians Briefly Try Numbers

The Cleveland Indians wore numbers on their sleeves for a game against the Chicago White Sox. The experiment was quickly abandoned, though, and uniform numbers weren't used again in major league baseball until 1929, when the Yankees wore them on their jerseys.

1935 - Waner Sets Putout Record

Centerfielder Lloyd Waner of the Pittsburgh Pirates set a major league record by recording 18 putouts in a doubleheader.

1944 - Dodgers Beat Yankees and Giants

To benefit War Bonds, the Dodgers, Giants, and Yankees played a unique six-inning exhibition game. Each team played two consecutive innings against the other two, then rested for an inning. The final score: Dodgers 5, Yankees 1, Giants 0.
