1954 - NBA Tries Higher Baskets
In a unique NBA experiment, the baskets were raised from 10 feet to 12 feet for an exhibition game between the Minneapolis Lakers and Milwaukee Hawks. The Lakers won, 65-63.

1970 - Carr Sets NCAA Tourney Record
Austin Carr set a single-game scoring record for the NCAA basketball tournament with 61 points, leading Notre Dame to a 112-82 first-round victory over Ohio University.

WBC heavyweight champion Mike Tyson won a unanimous 12-round decision over WBA titleist Bonecrusher Smith in Las Vegas.

1989 - Bowler Rolls Record 899 Series
Tom Jordan of Paterson, NJ, rolled an 899, the best three-game series recognized by the ABC in league play. Jordan opened with a perfect 300 game, left the ten-pin standing on the last ball of the second game, and closed the series with another perfect game.
