1876 - Barnes Hits MLB's First Home Run
The Chicago White Stockings' Ross Barnes hit the first home run in major league history, against the Cincinnati Red Stockings.

1909 - Wagner Turns Single into Run
Honus Wagner of the Pittsburgh Pirates singled with two outs in the first inning against the Chicago Cubs, then made it count by stealing second, third, and home on three consecutive pitches.

1917 - One Game, Two No-Hitters
Hippo Vaughan of the Chicago Cubs and Fred Toney of the Cincinnati Reds locked up in the only double no-hitter in major league history. Vaughan gave up a run on two hits in the top of the 10th and Toney retired the Reds in order in the bottom half of the inning to preserve the no-hitter and the victory.

1939 - Illness Ends Gehrig Streak
At his own request, New York Yankee first baseman Lou Gehrig was benched for a game against the Detroit Tigers because of what he thought was fatigue, ending his streak of 2,130 consecutive games. He never played again and died two years later of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, now known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

Stan Musial of the St. Louis Cardinals set a major league record by hitting five home runs in a double header against the New York Giants.
