1874 - Seed Planted for American Football
Harvard and McGill University of Montreal played a football game using McGill's version of the Rugby rules. The game, which ended in a scoreless tie, eventually led to the creation of American football.

1952 - Trucks Fires No-Hitter
Lefty Virgil "Fire" Trucks of the Detroit Tigers pitched a no-hitter to beat the Washington Senators, 1-0. It was the first of his two no-hitters that season.

1981 - Barker Pitches Perfect Game
Cleveland Indian pitcher Len Barker threw a perfect game, beating the Toronto Blue Jays, 3-0, at Cleveland. It was the first perfect game in the major leagues since 1968.
