1946 - Passeau's Errorless Streak Ends
Chicago Cub pitcher Claude Passeau committed an error - not normally news, but it was his first since Sept. 21, 1941, and it came after 273 errorless chances, a record for pitchers at the time.

1983 - Dueling Championship Fights in Vegas
There were two heavyweight "championship" fights in Las Vegas on this date. Larry Holmes won a 12-round split decision over Tim Witherspoon to retain his IBF/WBC title, while Michael Dokes retained the WBA title in a 15-round draw with Mike Weaver.
