1935 - Ruth Hits His Final 3 Home Runs

Babe Ruth brought back remembrances of things past by hitting three home runs for the Boston Braves against the Pirates at Pittsburgh's Forbes Field. They were the last hits of his career, as he retired just a couple of weeks later.

1935 - Jesse Owens Sets 4 World Records

Running and jumping for Ohio State at the Big Ten track meet, Jesse Owens broke four world records and tied a fifth in a little more than one hour.

1965 - Ali Kayoes Liston in First Defense

In a rematch of their championship fight, heavyweight titlist Muhammad Ali knocked out Sonny Liston in the first round at Lewiston, Maine, with a "phantom punch" that may or may not have hit its target. It was Ali's first fight under his new Muslim name; he had won the title as Cassius Clay.

1982 - Jenkins Notches 3,000th Strikeout

Chicago Cub pitcher Ferguson Jenkins collected his 3,000th strikeout in a 2-1 loss to the San Diego Padres. He was the seventh major-leaguer to reach that mark.
