1873 - First Preakness Run at Pimlico
Survivor won the first Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Track in Maryland with a time of 2:43. The race was named in honor of the horse who won a major stakes race on the day the track opened in 1870.

Norm Zauchin, Boston Red Sox first baseman, drove in 10 runs in 16-0 win over the Washington Senators.

1960 - Over-sized Catcher's Mitt Debuts
With knuckleballer Hoyt Wilhelm on the mound, Baltimore Oriole Clint Courtney used a special over-sized mitt designed by manager Paul Richards, a former catcher himself.
