1923 - Halas Returns Fumble 98 Yards
George Halas, owner, coach, and end for the Chicago Bears, picked up a fumble by the great Jim Thorpe and returned it 98 yards for a touchdown, an NFL record that lasted until 1972. The Bears beat Thorpe's Oorang Indians, 26-0, in Chicago.

1934 - Detroit Shutout Streak Ends
Pittsburgh scored a touchdown to end the Detroit Lions' streak of seven consecutive shutouts. Nevertheless, the Lions won the game, 40-7.

1951 - Young, Tunnell Score Back to Back
Buddy Young of the New York Yanks returned a kickoff for a touchdown against the New York Giants and the Giants' Emlen Tunnell ran back the ensuing kickoff for a TD. It was the first time in NFL history that there'd been touchdowns on consecutive kickoff returns. The Giants won the game, 37-31.

1971 - Elgin Baylor Calls It Quits
Forward Elgin Baylor of the Los Angeles Lakers announced his retirement after playing only nine games. Baylor was trying to come back after missing most of the 1970-71 season with a torn Achilles tendon.
