1943 - Luckman Throws 7 TD Passes

Sid Luckman of the Chicago Bears threw a record 7 touchdown passes in a 56-7 rout of the New York Giants. He passed for 433 yards, becoming the first NFL quarterback to surpass the 400-yard mark in a game.

1943 - Baugh Has 4 Interceptions Both Ways

Washington Redskin quarterback Sammy Baugh, who played safety in those single-platoon days, became the only NFL player to throw four interceptions and intercept four passes in a game. The Redskins beat the Detroit Lions, 42-20.

1970 - Marshall Football Plane Crashes

A chartered plane carrying the Marshall University football team, along with some boosters, crashed in the Appalachian Mountains, killing all 70 passengers and 5 crew members. Five coaches and 37 players were among the dead.

1993 - Shula Passes Halas in Wins

Don Shula surpassed George Halas as the NFL's all-time winningest coach when his Miami Dolphins beat the Philadelphia Eagles, 19-14. It was his 325th career victory. players were among the dead.
