1952 - A Foul Day for Syracuse
The Syracuse Nationals almost had to play a man or two short when eight players fouled out in an overtime game against the Baltimore Bullets, who won, 97-91. Officials decided to let a couple of the Syracuse players back into the game, but assessed a technical foul each time one of them committed another personal foul. Five Baltimore players also fouled out.

1960 - Baylor Breaks Own Scoring Record
Elgin Baylor of the Los Angeles Lakers broke his own NBA record by scoring 71 points as LA beat the Knicks, 123-108, at Madison Square Garden. Baylor had set the previous record of 64 the season before, when the Lakers were in Minneapolis.

1962 - Wright Shoots Record 62
Mickey Wright shot a 62, then an LPGA record, in the first round of the Tall City Open in Midland, Texas. She went on to win the tournament, one of her 82 championships.

1987 - Walker OT Run Wins for Dallas
In his first start at tailback for the Dallas Cowboys, Herschel Walker ran 60 yards for a touchdown to give Dallas a 23-17 overtime win over the New England Patriots. Walker finished the game with a career-high 173 yards. His game-winner was the NFL record for a touchdown run in overtime until 1998, when Garrison Hearst went 96 yards for the San Francisco 49ers.
1992 - Petty Finishes NASCAR Career
Richard Petty ran his final NASCAR race, at Atlanta. His car was damaged in a fiery crash, but was repaired in time for him to take a final lap so he could wave goodbye to the fans. Interestingly, it was Jeff Gordon's first Winston Cup race.
