1956 - Brown Scores Record 43 Points

Running back Jim Brown of Syracuse set an NCAA record by scoring 43 points in a 61-7 win over Colgate on 6 touchdowns and 7 conversions. Brown carried the ball 22 times for 197 yards and had touchdown runs of 50, 19, 15, and 8 yards, plus two 1-yard plunges.

1968 - NFL Yields to Heidi

After the New York Jets took a 32-29 lead over the Oakland Raiders with 65 seconds left, NBC dropped coverage of the game to air the children's movie "Heidi" at its scheduled 7 p.m. starting time. The Raiders scored two touchdowns in a nine-second span to win the game, 43-32, and NBC got so many angry calls that its switchboard broke down.

1982 - NFL Strike Ends, Season Shortened

NFL players ended their two-month strike without resolving any of the issues that had caused the strike. The season was shortened to nine games and the usual playoff system was replaced by a 16-team Super Bowl tournament.

1990 - Klingler Throws for 11 TDs

Houston quarterback David Klingler set an NCAA record by throwing 11 touchdown passes in an 84-21 rout of Eastern Washington at the Astrodome.
