Historic Events

1956 - Richards Wins 2nd Vaulting Gold

Seeking to become the first pole vaulter to win two Gold Medals, Bob Richards brushed the bar as he went over at 14 feet, 11 ½ inches, and then lay motionless in the pit for 30 seconds, staring up as it quivered above him. It finally stopped and stayed in place, giving Richards his Gold Medal and an Olympic record in the event. He broke his own record of 14-11, set in 1952 at Helsinki.

1989 - Receiver Anderson Sets Yardage Record

The Los Angeles Rams scored 17 points in the final 3 minutes to beat the New Orleans Saints, 20-17. Wide receiver Willie "Flipper" Anderson, who scored the winning touchdown, set an NFL record with 336 receiving yards on 15 catches.
