1925 - Vezina Plays Last Game
Goalie Georges Vezina of the Montreal Canadiens was in the nets even though he was running a temperature of 104 degrees. He collapsed during the game and was taken off the ice. It was discovered that he had tuberculosis, and he died four months later.

1929 - Nevers Beats Bears, 40-7
Ernie Nevers of the Chicago Cardinals set the NFL's two longest-standing records by rushing for six touchdowns and scoring all of his team's points in a 40-6 victory over the Chicago Bears at Comiskey Park. Although two other players, Cleveland's Dub Jones in 1951 and the Bears' Gale Sayers in 1965, have scored 6 touchdowns in a game, Nevers' record of 6 rushing TDs still stands, along with his 40 points.

1948 - Evans Sets Fumble TD Record
Chicago Bear back Fred "Dippy" Evans scored two touchdowns on fumble recoveries in a 48-13 win over the Washington Redskins. That's still an NFL record.

1979 - Goalie Scores Without Shooting
Billy Smith of the New York Islanders became the first NHL goalie ever to be credited with a goal. The Colorado Rockies sent their goalie to the bench because of a delayed penalty call. When Colorado defenseman Rob Ramage sent a pass back to the point, it went all the way down the ice and into the Rockies' net. Smith was awarded the goal because he was last Islander to touch the puck.
