The Montreal Forum opened with a 9-1 victory by the Montreal Canadiens over Toronto. Billy Boucher had the hat trick before 9,000 enthusiastic fans.

1987 - Glenn Returns INT 103 Yards

San Diego Charger safetyman Vencie Glenn returned an interception a record 103 yards in a 37-17 loss to the Denver Broncos.

1989 - Sooners Score 97 in 1st Half

Oklahoma set an NCAA record by scoring 97 points in the first half of a 173-101 win over U. S. International University.

1992 - Jets' Byrd Is Paralyzed

Defensive end Dennis Byrd of the New York Jets suffered a broken neck and was paralyzed from the waist down in a collision with teammate Scott Mersereau as they both went after Kansas City quarterback Dave Krieg. After surgery and intensive rehab work, Byrd walked onto the field unaided to wave at fans at the Meadowlands on opening day of the 1994 season.

1997 - Robinson Ends 56-year Coaching Career

Southern University football coach Eddie Robinson coached his final game, a 30-7 loss to Grambling. It was the end of a 56-year career in which Robinson's teams won a record 408 games, with 165 losses and 15 times.
