1987 - Jackson Sets Raider Rushing Record
Bo Jackson, who said baseball was his career and pro football only a hobby, set an Oakland Raider record by rushing for 221 yards on Monday Night Football. He scored three touchdowns, one on a 91-yard run, in a 37-14 win over the Seattle Seahawks at the Kingdome.

1991 - U. S. Women Win World Soccer Title
The United States beat Norway, 2-1, to win the first women's world soccer championship. Carin Gabarra of the U. S. was named the tournament's most oustanding player.

1996 - Lemieux Hits 1,400-Point Mark
Pittsburgh Penguin center Mario Lemieux scored a goal in a 6-2 win over the Boston Bruins, giving him 1,400 points for his career. He was only the fourth player in NHL history to reach that mark.
