1921 - World Series Game Broadcast
In the first World Series game to be broadcast on the radio, the Yankees beat the Giants, 3-0, at the Polo Grounds. Sportswriter Grantland Rice did the play-by-play for radio station KDKA of Pittsburgh.

1941 - A Costly Third Strike in Series
The Dodgers had a 4-3 lead with two outs in the ninth inning of World Series Game 4 when Tommy Heinrich of the New York Yankees struck out. That should have ended the game, but catcher Mickey Owens dropped the ball, Heinrich was safe at first, and Yankees proceeded to win the game, 7-4.

1947 - Gionfriddo Robs Dimaggio
Dodger outfielder Al Gionfriddo robbed Joe Dimaggio of a three-run home run in Game 6 of the World Series and Brooklyn went on to win the game, 8-6. They lost Game 7, though, and Dimaggio was named Series MVP.

1953 - Yanks Win Fifth Straight Series
Second baseman Billy Martin drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Yankees a six-game victory over the Dodgers. Carl Furillo had tied the game, 3-3, with a two-run homer in the top of the ninth. The single was Martin's 12th hit, a World Series record at the time, and it gave the Yankees a record fifth straight world championship.

1985 - Grambling's Robinson Gets 324th Win
Grambling Coach Eddie Robinson got his 324th victory, a 27-7 win over Prairie View A&M at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, to surpass Bear Bryant as the winningest college football coach of all time.
