Historic Events

1909 - Cubs Win Pennant in Replay

1956 - Larsen Is Perfect in Series

It took Don Larsen just 97 pitches to throw the only perfect game in World Series history, as his Yankees beat the Brooklyn Dodgers, 2-0, in Game 5. Larsen got some fielding help. Gil Hodges was robbed of two hits, first on Mickey Mantle's running, back-handed catch in deep left-center, then by third baseman Andy Carey's lunging stab of a line drive. Jackie Robinson hit what looked like a sure single off Carey's glove in the second inning, but shortstop Gil McDougald made a strong throw to nip Robinson at first base.
