1890 - First Sub-Ten 100-Yard Dash
The 10-second barrier in the 100-yard dash was broken for the first time as John Owens was timed at 9 4/5 seconds when he won the event at an Amateur Athletic Union meet in Washington, DC.

1925 - Giants Begin with NFL Loss
The New York Giants played their first NFL game and lost to the Providence Steamroller, 14-0. The Giants, in fact, lost their first three, then went on an eight-game winning strike before losing their finale to finish at 8-4.

1981 - Irvin Sets Punt Return Record
LeRoy Irvin of the Los Angeles Rams set an NFL record by returning punts for 207 yards in a 37-35 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Irvin had six returns, including two touchdowns, a 75-yarder in the first quarter and an 84-yarder in the fourth.
