1905 - Mathewson Finishes All-Shutout Series
Christy Mathewson of the New York Giants pitched his third shutout in six days to beat the Philadelphia Athletics, 2-0, and give New York a five-game World Series victory. All five games were shutouts. Mathewson's teammate, Joe McGinnity, and Philadelphia's Chief Bender had the others.

1945 - Cards Win After 29 Losses
The Chicago Cardinals beat the cross-town rival Bears, 16-7, to end the longest losing streak in NFL history. The Cards had lost 29 in a row going into the game. Ten of the losses came in 1944, when they played as Card-Pitt in a merger with the Pittsburgh Steelers because of the World War II manpower shortage.

1951 - Christiansen Returns 2 Punts for TDs
Rookie Jack Christiansen of the Detroit Lions returned two punts for touchdowns, with runs of 69 and 47 yards, against the Los Angeles Rams. Less than a month later, he did the same thing against the Green Bay Packers, on returns of 71 and 89 yards.

1989 - Bailey Sets Career Rushing Record
Johnny Bailey of Texas A&I set an NCAA career record with 6,085 yards rushing in four seasons as a starter.
