1957 - Richard First to Reach 500
Maurice "Rocket" Richard of the Montreal Canadiens became the first NHL player to score 500 goals when he put the puck past Chicago goalie Glenn Hall at 15:52 of the first period in a 3-1 Montreal win.

1987 - Yankees Hire Martin Again
The Yankees named Billy Martin their manager for the fifth time. He replaced Lou Piniella, who had replaced Martin in October of 1985. Martin was fired in June of 1988 and replaced by Piniella.
