1973 - Rams' Dryer Gets Two Safeties
In a 24-7 win over the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Ram defensive end Fred Dryer became the first NFL player to record two safeties in a game. He's still the only player to do it.

1988 - Gastineau Retires in Mid-Season
In mid-season, defensive end Mark Gastineau of the New York Jets suddenly announced his retirement, citing "personal reasons." Gastineau subsequently claimed it was because his girlfriend, actress Brigitte Nielsen, was suffering from cancer. Much later, he admitted that he had twice tested positive for steroid use and was afraid of the bad publicity that would result from a third positive test.

1990 - Reds Win Series Behind Rijo
The underdog Cincinnati Reds stunned the powerful Oakland As by beating them, 2-1, to sweep the World Series. Jose Rijo picked up his second victory, retiring the last 20 Oakland hitters, and won the Series MVP award.
