1870 - Preakness Wins Pimlico's First Race

Baltimore's Pimlico Race Course opened with the Dinner Party Stakes, which was won by Preakness. During its first spring meeting in 1873, the track's featured race was named the Preakness Stakes in honor of that first winner.

1964 - Marshall Runs 66 Yards the Wrong Way

Defensive end Jim Marshall of the Minnesota Vikings picked up a fumble by the San Francisco 49ers' Billy Kilmer and ran 66 yards to the end zone. Unfortunately for him, it was the wrong end zone. The 49ers got a safety, but the Vikings still won the game, 27-22.

1986 - Mets Score to Win in 10th

The Red Sox were on the verge of winning the World Series after taking a 5-3 lead in the top of the 10th inning of Game 6 against the Mets at Shea Stadium. The first two New York hitters were retired in the bottom of the 10th, but three straight singles cut the lead to 5-4. With runners on first and third, reliever Bob Stanley threw a wild pitch that tied the game. Then Mookie Wilson hit a grounder to first baseman Bill Buckner, but the ball went under Buckner's glove and Ray Knight scored the winning run from second. The Mets went on to win Game 7 and the Series.

1990 - Holyfield Kayoes Douglas for Title

After being ranked as the top contender for 19 months, Evander Holyfield finally got his title shot and took advantage of it. He knocked out James "Buster" Douglas in the third round to win the championship that Douglas had taken from Mike Tyson.
