1912 - Rookie Tesreau Throws No-Hitter

Jeff Tesreau of the New York Giants became the first rookie in the 20th century to pitch a no-hitter, beating Philadelpia, 3-0, in the first game of a doubleheader. The Giants also won the second game, 9-8.

1954 - Mathews Gets 8 Straight hits

In a doubleheader sweep of the Chicago Cubs, Braves third baseman Eddie Mathews collected eight hits in a row, then lined out in his ninth trip to the plate.

1963 - MLB Marks 100,000th Game

The Cleveland Indians and Washington Senators played the 100,000th game in major league history. The Senators won, 7-2.

1995 - Ripken Breaks Gehrig's Record

Cal Ripken Jr. of the Baltimore Orioles broke Lou Gehrig's long-standing record by playing in his 2,131st consecutive game. Ripken hit a home run in the game, a 4-2 win over the Angels.

1996 - Murray Is 15th to Hit 500 Homers

Baltimore's Eddie Murray hit his 500th career home run, but the Orioles lost to the Detroit Tigers, 5-4, in 12 innings. Murray was the 15th player to reach the 500 mark, and he was the third player, after Willie Mays and Henry Aaron, to have 500 home runs and 3,000 hits.
