1947 - Kiner Hits 8th HR in 4 Games
Pittsburgh Pirate Ralph Kiner hit his eighth home run in a four-game stretch, breaking the record of seven in four games set by Tony Lazzeri in 1936.

1962 - Cheney Strikes Out Record 21
Tom Cheney of the Washington Senators set a record by striking out 21 Orioles, but it took him 16 innings. He was rewarded with a 2-1 win when Bud Zipfel homered in the bottom of the 16th.

1976 - Minoso Singles at 53
White Sox DH Minnie Minoso hit a single off Sid Monge of the Angels. Doesn't seem like much of an event but, at 53, Minoso was the oldest player ever to get a major league hit.

1979 - Yaz Gets 3,000th Hit
Carl Yastrzemski of the Boston Red Sox collected his 3,000th hit off Jim Beattie in a 9-2 win over the Yankees. Yaz became the first American Leaguer to have 3,000 hits and more than 400 home runs.

1984 - Gooden Sets Rookie K Record
Dwight Gooden of the Mets struck out 16 Pittsburgh Pirates to give him 251 for the year, a rookie record. The old record of 245 was set by Herb Score of the Indians.

2000 - Hansen Hits 7th Pinch Homer
The Dodgers' Dave Hansen hit his seventh pinch home run of the season, a new major league record, but the Arizona Diamondbacks won anyway, 5-4.
