1936 - Feller Strikes Out 17 at 17
Bob Feller of the Cleveland struck out 17 hitters in a 5-2 win over the Philadelphia Athletics. That was a new major league record; 17 was also Feller's age.

1942 - Second Baseman Boots 4 in Inning
The Chicago Cubs beat the Boston Braves, 12-8, despite a record 4 errors in the second inning by second baseman Lennie Merullo. At least Merullo had a sense of humor. His son, born on this day, was named Boots.

1965 - Mays Hits 500th Home Run
Willie Mays hit his 500th home run off Don Nottebart of the Houston Astros to help the San Francisco Giants take a 5-1 victory.

1971 - Robinson Is 15th to Hit 500
Frank Robinson of the Baltimore Orioles hit his 499th home run in the first game of a doubleheader and his 500th in the second game. He was the 11th major league player to reach the 500 mark.

1981 - Falcons Score Record 31 in 4th
The Atlanta Falcons tied an NFL record for points in the fourth quarter by scoring 31 against the Green Bay Packers to pull out a 31-17 victory.
