1912 - Wood Wins 16th in a Row
Smoky Joe Wood of the Boston Red Sox won his 16th straight game, a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Browns. Wood scored the winning run himself. The 16 straight wins tied a record set earlier in the season by Walter Johnson.

1938 - Brothers Hit Back-to-Back Homers
Pittsburgh outfielders Lloyd and Paul Waner hit consecutive home runs against the New York Giants' Cliff Melton. It's the only time brothers have done it.

1950 - Mize Hits 3 Homers for 6th Time
Johnny Mize of the Yankees hit three home runs in a game for the sixth time, a major league record. The Yankees lost to Detroit, 9-7, anyway.

1969 - Carlton Gets 16 Ks, 1 L
Despite striking out a record 19 hitters, Steve Carlton of the Cardinals lost, 4-3, to the New York Mets. Ron Svoboda hit two 2-run home runs to win the game.

1979 - Watson Hits for Cycle Again
Bob Watson of the Red Sox got a single in the second inning, a double in the fourth, a triple in the eighth, and home run in the ninth in a 10-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles. He's the only player to hit for the cycle in both leagues. He had previously done it with the Houston Astros of the National League.

1991 - Faulk Rushes for Record 386 Yards
Freshman Marshall Faulk of San Diego State, playing in only his second game, set an NCAA record by rushing for 386 yards on 37 carries against University of the Pacific. He also scored 7 touchdowns, the NCAA record for a freshman.

2002 - Schilling Joins Johnson with 300 Wins
Arizona Diamondback Curt Schilling struck out eight in a 6-5 win over the Milwaukee Brewers, giving him 300 for the season. Schilling and Randy Johnson are the only teammates ever to strike out 300 or more hitters in the same season.
