1939 - Like Father, Like Son
Boston Red Sox rookie Ted Williams hit a home run off Thornton Lee of the Chicago White Sox. In 1960, his final major league season, Williams hit a home run off Thornton's son, Don Lee, of the Washington Senators.

1989 - Court Awards America's Cup
A New York appeals court restored America's Cup to the San Diego Yacht Club, overturning a judge's decision awarding it to New Zealand, which had protested the SDYC's use of a catamaran to win the 1988 races.

1998 - Rodriguez Joins 40-40 Club
Seattle shortstop Alex Rodriguez hit his 40th home run in a 5-3 loss to the Angels. That made him the third player ever to have 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in the same season. He finished with 46 steals and 42 homers.
