History
This tournament is a bit like the U. S. Open on the men's golf tour, in that it's conducted by the U. S. Bowling Congress rather than the Professional Bowlers Association, and top amateurs, as well as professionals, are allowed to take part.
Like golf's open, it's considered one of the four major tournaments on the men's tour.
The American Bowling Congress (ABC) launched the Masters was in January of 1951 as the first major event on the PBA Tour. After the tournament in January 2004, Miller High Life became the sponsor of the event, which was moved to late October and staged in Miller Park, home of baseball's Milwaukee Brewers. Because the PBA had revamped its schedule to run from late fall through spring, the Masters remains the first major event on the tour.
In 2005, the restructured ABC was renamed the USBC, and the tournament was also renamed.
