History
The super middleweight (or junior light heavyweight, as it's sometimes called) division was created by the Ohio Boxing Commission in 1974, though there was only fight in the class under that commission's supervision.
The World Athletic Association also staged a championship fight in the division in 1982, but that was also a one-fight proposition. However, the International Boxing Federation (IBF) added the super middleweight class in 1984. The World Boxing Association (WBA) followed suit in 1987, the World Boxing Council (WBC) in 1988.
The lists below include champions of those three organizations.
Only those bouts are included in which the championship changed hands or the championships of two or more governing bodies was unified.
